Supporting Conestoga College Expansion
Ontario is investing in renewed and renovated facilities at Conestoga College that will provide specialized training and programming opportunities for students in Kitchener-Waterloo, and better equip them with the skills they need for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
Daiene Vernile, MPP for Kitchener Centre, was joined by MarwanTabbara, MP for Kitchener South-Hespeler and Raj Saini for MP for Kitchener Centre, at Conestoga College to announce funding for the college's Pathways to Prosperity campus renewal project.
The investment from the province and the federal government will support the following projects:
Institute for Culinary & Hospitality Management - expanded classroom, lab and learning spaces, and a new, specialized research kitchen.

Centre for Advanced Learning - a new centre that will expand existing space and consolidate programming in high-demand areas such as information and communications technology and business.

Access Hub - a new hub that will expand and consolidate guidance services such as career advice, academic upgrading and programs for job-seekers.
Celebrating Local Food Exporters
Ontario is recognizing agri-food companies that have strengthened the province's economy through increased exports of Ontario manufactured food to new international markets.  MPPs Daiene Vernile and Kathryn McGarry presented Conestoga Meat Packers with the 2016 Food Exporter Award on behalf of Jeff Leal, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
Conestoga Meat Packers  received the award for its global marketing strategy that has focused on exporting its premium quality, fresh pork to key markets such as Japan, China, Mexico and the United States.  Agrocrop Exports Ltd. and  Super-Pufft Snacks Corporation were also recognized for their excellence in working with international markets.
Child Care Consultations
come to Kitchener
Access and affordability were the top concerns discussed at a recent Child Care Townhall held at the Victoria Hills Community Centre.  MPP Daiene Vernile was pleased to welcome Ontario’s Associate Minister of Education, Indira Naidoo-Harris, as she conducts a province-wide tour collecting feedback from parents, child care workers, and experts.
Ontario is improving access to affordable, accessible, and responsive child care for families across the province with a commitment to deliver 100,000 more child care spaces within the next five years.
Great Insight at the Great Lakes Forum
Earlier this month, MPP Daiene Vernile joined MPP Soo Wong, and legislators from eight American states to collaborate on pressing environmental issues at the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators’ Great Lakes Forum.   More than 30 legislators participated in the two-day forum which highlighted water-related issues and threats to the Great Lakes, such as nutrient pollution, invasive species, and lead contamination.
Connecting with our U.S. neighbours is vitally important in our goal of solving issues of common concern.
